Sponsored Trip to CT Professional Hockey Match

Cha Inn Moon -  March 7, 2014

Last Friday, the Football Foundation of South Africa had the opportunity to bring forty of our kids from the Gansbaai and Hawston training sites to watch a friendly hockey match between the South African Men’s Hockey Team and Olympic Champions Germany Team in Hartleyvale Stadium, Cape Town.

The trip was supported through the help of one of our volunteers, Émilie Laschet, who reached out to Deutscher Hockey Bund e.V (German Hockey Federation) in getting free entrance tickets for the children and FFSA staff. Hockey Coach Shereen Van De Merwe and 11 volunteers and interns started the evening watching the Opening Ceremony where the Foundation children were seen raising the flags of South Africa and Germany and singing along with their national anthem.

During the 60-minute match, children were ecstatic and cheering in unison with the rest of the audience. The German team won the match with a score of 5:3 and was thereafter proceeded with a meet and greet session with the athletes where children had the chance to get signed autographs and take pictures with the entire team.

This event has been a great opportunity to expand our children’s awareness in professional hockey, especially for the participants of our recently launched hockey programme in Hawston and Hermanus. We would once again like to thank our volunteer Émilie Laschet and Deutscher Hockey Bund e.V (German Hockey Federation) for making this trip possible!
