Hawston Rugby Club Donation

Last Saturday, members of the Football Foundation of South Africa attended a pre-season friendly rubgy match at the Hawston Community Sports Centre in Hermanus to donate and distribute athletic wear to the players of Hawston Rugby Club.
As part of the Foundation’s efforts to provide for local communities and recognize growing sports clubs, the Foundation hands out previously donated items from our sponsors to groups that face deficiencies in basic goods and resources. (See Read More for remainder of article)

Congratulations to our Managing Director, Leán Terblanche, for winning this year’s KLM’s International Women’s Day Award!
KLM, the Royal Dutch Airlines, hosts annual global awards to recognize outstanding women of leadership in commemoration of International Women’s Day that is held every 08th of March. This year, the theme for the award is “Inspiring Change” and it aims to highlight one South African woman that has uplifted and made a difference to a community in South Africa. Launch of Hout Bay Skills Training Programme

Hout Bay, Western Cape, South Africa – 14 February 2014: Earlier this afternoon, twenty selected students from the Hout Bay region in Western Cape began their formal introductions for the ‘Hout Bay Skills Training Programme’ in the Hout Bay Community Cultural Centre.
Leading sport and fitness college, eta created the Hout Bay Skills Training Programme in partnership with the Football Foundation of South Africa (FFSA), City of Cape Town, and Hout Bay Sport and Recreation Council to provide professional expertise on basic coaching skills, fitness, recreation, community development, event planning, resource mobilization, work readiness skills and administration. FFSA Welcomes New Interns!

FFSA would like to welcome two new interns from New York!
As part of our goal to expand our reach across communities, the Foundation has created a new internship programme that recruits students from around the world and provides professional opportunities that produce meaningful impact and change.
Interns are accepted twice a year for a minimum working period of six months where they will work closely with staff in project development, research efforts, and publicity efforts. All candidates must display strong work experience and skillsets as well as show passion and drive to contribute towards the mission of the Foundation. (See Read More for remainder of article)

Paarl Site Visit

The FFSA team conducted a site visit to the Mbekweni Community Sports Centre in Paarl yesterday to discuss about the new and upcoming Sports & Agribusiness for Youth Empowerment and Employability project.
The Alster Grootbos Hockey Project (as part of the FFSA) has partnered up with SCORE from Paarl and Society Empowerment Project (SEP) from Kenya to address the socio-economic challenges of rural communities by providing sports development programmes linked to food security, nutrition and social enterprise skills. Gender Equality Monthly Theme

Interschool Hockey Match

Last Monday, the Football Foundation hosted a friendly interschool hockey game between the Gansbaai team and Okkie Smuts Primary School at the Gansbaai Sports Field.

Jubelland Day Care Centre Donation

The Football Foundation of South Africa has been able to reach out to another special community this week!
The Jubelland Day Care Centre in Stanford reached their twenty-year anniversary this February 2014 and has grown increasingly through the years from a total of ten children to one hundred eighty children to date. The Centre holds multiple programmes such as their crèche and afterschool day care service for children, weekend projects for the youth, and skills development projects for the elderly and disabled. Sponsored Trip to CT Professional Hockey Match

Last Friday, the Football Foundation of South Africa had the opportunity to bring forty of our kids from the Gansbaai and Hawston training sites to watch a friendly hockey match between the South African Men’s Hockey Team and Olympic Champions Germany Team in Hartleyvale Stadium, Cape Town.
The trip was supported through the help of one of our volunteers, Émilie Laschet, who reached out to Deutscher Hockey Bund e.V (German Hockey Federation) in getting free entrance tickets for the children and FFSA staff. (See Read More for remainder of article)
Food for Sport Programme

Gansbaai, Western Cape, South Africa – 14 March 2014: The Football Foundation of South Africa (FFSA) initiated their ‘Food for Sport’ training and education programme this afternoon at the Gansbaai Sports Centre.
As part of a collaborated effort within the Grootbos Foundation, the new initiative aims at nourishing the health and food security levels of the local community by providing informed knowledge and practical activities that promote social, academic, and business skills for young children and their families. Human Rights Day Event

To commemorate Human Rights Day, twenty-four of our Gansbaai and Stanford children visited the Mbekweni Community Sports Centre in Paarl to compete in a round of friendly sports matches with town peers.
Under the support of one of our partnering non-profits, SCORE, the event started off with a guest speaker who talked about the importance of holding onto one’s rights with dignity and to take active responsibilities in carrying out those measures throughout one’s lifetime. Youth Hockey Festival

Central Hockey Club hosted their bi-annual Youth Hockey Festival in Vygieskraal Hockey Complex, Cape Town last weekend.
The core theme of the event was to both commemorate Human Rights Day and to mark the launch of the South African Hockey Association (SAHA) Club and Youth Development Program which aims at engaging kids to stay in school through sport. (See Read More for remainder of article)
Barclays Premiere League Networking Event

Last weekend, FFSA Director Michael Lutzeyer and Leán Terblanche attended the Premier League and British High Commission Business Breakfast in the lead up to the “Barclays Premier League Live” event in Johannesburg, Zoo Lake Sports Club.
The networking opportunity opened up a round of talks by notable guests such as the British High Commissioner, Mrs. Judith Macgregor, and Premier League Chief Executive, Richard Scudamore where they discussed current projects and future plans to expand the business of football in South Africa.
