Hawston Rugby Club Donation

Cha Inn Moon -  February 22, 2014

Last Saturday, members of the Football Foundation of South Africa attended a pre-season friendly rugby match between Hawston Rugby Club and Safcol Rugby Club (Grabouw) at the Hawston Community Sports Centre in Hermanus to donate and distribute athletic wear to Hawston Rugby Club.

As part of the Foundation’s efforts to provide for local communities and recognize growing sports clubs, the Foundation hands out previously donated items from our sponsors to groups that face deficiencies in basic goods and resources.

The Hawston Rugby Club, which shares the same sports field that our Foundation conducts weekly football and hockey training programmes as part of our newly launched Hermanus programme, has recently moved up to the semi-professional division in the Premier League and is experiencing a state of growth that requires supportive acts from the community. This opportunity enables our Foundation to provide a helping hand and further guide the Club in reaching for a more encompassing goal – to engage more young men in sport.

Through the in-kind contributions provided by sportswear brand Puma and former Spanish football player Marcos Senna (Villareal FC), a total of one hundred jerseys and sixty tracksuits were handed out to all three teams of the Hawston Rugby Club at the Hawston Community Sports Centre. FFSA Project Coordinator Natasha Bredekamp organized and led the donation with the help of ten Foundation volunteers, interns, and coaches.

After the pre-game handout of the athletic wear, the FFSA team took part in watching the tournament with the rest of the Hawston community, after which the team was treated to some local seafood and refreshments provided by the Club.

FFSA would like to thank the Hawston Rugby Club for their hospitality and we wish them the best in their athletic pursuits this year!
