Youth Hockey Festival

Central Hockey Club hosted their bi-annual Youth Hockey Festival in Vygieskraal Hockey Complex, Cape Town last weekend.
The core theme of the event was to both commemorate Human Rights Day and to mark the launch of the South African Hockey Association (SAHA) Club and Youth Development Program which aims at engaging kids to stay in school through sport.
Participating teams were designated different countries from around the world for the event’s mini hockey Olympics programme– the Football Foundation selected to be the German delegation this year.
The Opening Ceremony consisted of a full field of excited children that were seen marching across the stadium with their team’s country flags. Over the course of the day, our U8, U11, and U13 teams played intensely throughout a series of strong matches where the competition was high.
Children also had some fun downtime playing board games and activities with other peers after all matches were completed. Our regular participation at the Youth Hockey Festival has always been a memorable time for our kids and we cannot wait for the next one later this August!
